GK12 Experience

I’m about three quarters through my first year in the GK12 program. I’m having a great time doing a lot of different things. I taught high school for four years before I came back to graduate school, and it’s been a tremendous treat to get back in the classroom (without the grading!). In addition to continuing development on the BreakDance PCSDT and other applications, I visit two classrooms regularly: Peg Webb’s at Hacket, and John Rosenzweig’s at Myers. I started working on the BreakDance application last summer, and it’s the software that use I most often when working with students, particularly with Peg’s class. I see its purpose as a tool for reviewing geometric ideas like angles, as well as a way of introducing valuable topics that many students don’t get exposed to in public school curricula, such as rotations and 3d space. I’ve also been experimenting with the Skateboarder application recently, as well as looking in to visits with Bill’s science club.
